Deck overview

This mono-black control deck uses Tergrid, God of Fright alongside punishing discard, sacrifice, and stax engines to systematically dismantle opposing game plans while stealing their permanents. The deck relies on a dense suite of mana rocks and black mana doublers (Crypt Ghast, Cabal Coffers, Nirkana Revenant) to accelerate into Tergrid and follow up immediately with asymmetric resource denial like Oppression, Painful Quandary, and multi-target edicts. Once the table's hands and boards are emptied, the deck converts its massive mana advantage and stolen board state into a win via a devastating Torment of Hailfire, Tergrid's Lantern activations, combat swarms, or an infinite colorless mana combo with Basalt Monolith and Rings of Brighthearth into Walking Ballista. The deck must carefully manage self-inflicted anti-synergies like Leyline of the Void, which replaces graveyard entry and prevents Tergrid from triggering.
