Deck overview

This mono-black deck combines Zombie and Knight typal synergies to execute a combat-focused attrition game plan. Commanded by Haakon, Stromgald Scourge, the deck faces a unique deckbuilding challenge: Haakon cannot be cast from the command zone directly and requires specific enablers like Command Beacon, Campfire, or Netherborn Altar combined with discard outlets to enter the graveyard. Despite this bottleneck, the 99 is constructed to operate reliably as a standalone midrange beatdown deck. Low-cost menace attackers such as Knight of Dusk's Shadow and Fallen Askari curve into draw engines like Midnight Reaper and Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools. Big mana generators Cabal Coffers and Cabal Stronghold fuel late-game plays like kicked Josu Vess, Lich Knight, Calculating Lich, and Rot Hulk. While the deck features strong resilience through graveyard recursion and typal density, it is vulnerable to mass exile, board wipes, and high-speed combo strategies.
