Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk deck built around Hakbal of the Surging Soul's explore engine. At the start of combat, every Merfolk explores, drawing lands into hand and distributing +1/+1 counters across the team, while Hakbal's attack trigger ramps a land into play or draws a card. The deck floods the board with hexproof Merfolk tokens via Deeproot Waters, Deeproot Pilgrimage, and Emperor Mihail II, pumps them with lords like Lord of Atlantis and Merfolk Mistbinder, and makes them unblockable through islandwalk or Herald of Secret Streams. The primary win is a wide, counter-laden combat, accelerated by the extra-turn engines Time Warp and Wanderwine Prophets. A secondary win is Thassa's Oracle after self-milling with Drowner of Secrets. A dense counterspell and removal suite keeps the board safe while the engine runs.
