Deck overview

This mono-black deck combines an aggressive Rat tribal strategy with an infinite creature combo. Led by Karumonix, the Rat King, the deck quickly populates the battlefield with cheap rodents and multiple copies of Rat Colony. Karumonix enters the battlefield to refill your hand with more Rats while granting the entire swarm toxic 1, turning any unblocked combat damage into lethal poison counters. Acceleration from Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and two-mana mana rocks allows you to deploy Karumonix by turn 3 and assemble a wide board. The deck threatens a lethal attack by turn 5 using Marrow-Gnawer to give all Rats fear, or assembles the infinite token combo with Marrow-Gnawer and Thornbite Staff. Four efficient black tutors ensure reliable access to key pieces like Eldrazi Monument and Phyrexian Altar. While vulnerable to sweepers and lacking enchantment removal, the deck applies relentless poison pressure.
