Deck overview

This Grixis midrange deck is commanded by Sauron, the Dark Lord, leveraging passive token generation, formidable ward protection, and explosive card draw to control the board. The strategy accelerates through early mana rocks and Treasure generators into a Turn 4–5 Sauron deployment. Once active, Sauron punishes opposing spells by amassing an Orc Army, then converts combat damage into repeatable four-card wheels via Ring temptation. The deck supports this attrition engine with format-ceiling free interaction, including Fierce Guardianship, Deflecting Swat, and Deadly Rollick, alongside resilient protection from Mithril Coat and Cavern of Souls. While Sauron and high-impact threats like Goldspan Dragon and Ancient Copper Dragon can close games through combat and burn spells like Chandra's Ignition, the deck also features a compact two-card infinite life drain combo with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and Bloodthirsty Conqueror to eliminate the entire table.
