Deck overview

This deck is a high-power mono-black aristocrats and attrition engine commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The deck focuses on accelerating into its 8-mana commander using fast mana, rituals, and massive land ramp engines like Cabal Coffers and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Once Avacyn is deployed, any nontoken creature that dies returns to the battlefield at the next end step. By combining Avacyn with self-sacrificing creatures like Fleshbag Marauder, Accursed Marauder, and Plaguecrafter, the deck creates an oppressive loop that triggers on every player's end step, forcing opponents to sacrifice creatures four times per turn cycle. High-impact finishers such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and Archon of Cruelty turn these recurring death triggers into rapid life drain and hand destruction. Built-in self-recursion on death protects Avacyn from traditional removal, while heavy interaction and tutor density ensure consistent execution.
