Deck overview

This deck focuses on a Mardu Voltron strategy powered by the mutate mechanic. The game plan centers on establishing a low-cost, resilient, or evasive non-Human creature during the first three turns, then mutating Snapdax, Apex of the Hunt onto it on turn 4. This play immediately triggers 4 damage to remove an opposing blocker, gains 4 life, and enables a powerful double strike attack. Host creatures like Plague Myr provide rapid infect pressure, while Vashta Nerada offers indestructible shadow evasion and Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar converts single-target hits into table-wide commander damage. The deck features efficient instant-speed interaction and recovery engines like Phyrexian Reclamation and Victimize. Because mutating stacks multiple cards onto one permanent, the strategy requires careful sequencing of defensive spells like Boros Charm and Grand Abolisher to close out games across multiple combat rotations by turn 7.
