Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Simic Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary game plan revolves around deploying cheap, efficient Merfolk in the early turns, casting Hakbal on Turn 4, and utilizing its combat trigger to explore across the entire team. This rapidly filters draws, loads the hand with land drops, and distributes +1/+1 counters across your attackers. On Turn 5, the deck transitions into a lethal threat by casting evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams or value duplicators like Roaming Throne, turning the Merfolk army into an unblockable, high-damage force that closes out the game over two combat rotations. The list is resilient against removal thanks to phased protection from Ripples of Potential and indestructible effects from Heroic Intervention. While it lacks counterspells to contest non-creature combos on the stack, its asymmetric board wipes and card velocity ensure consistent board dominance in casual multiplayer pods.
