Deck overview

This deck is a synergistic Simic Merfolk typal build commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The strategy establishes a low-curve board of Merfolk on turns 1 through 3, then casts Hakbal on turn 4 to immediately trigger explore on every Merfolk at combat. This engine rapidly filters the library, grows creatures with +1/+1 counters, and generates massive card advantage. On turns 5 through 7, the deck closes the game by giving its oversized army evasion through Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, or Zegana, Utopian Speaker, while threatening an alternate win condition via Simic Ascendancy. Resilient defensive spells like Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call protect the wide board against sweepers, while asymmetric board resets like Wave Goodbye clear away opposing blockers.
