Deck overview

This deck is an oppressive mono-black discard and resource-denial engine helmed by Tergrid, God of Fright. The primary strategy accelerates mana through explosive rituals such as Dark Ritual and Cabal Ritual to deploy Tergrid on Turn 3 or 4. Once Tergrid is on the battlefield, symmetrical discard and sacrifice spells like Dark Deal, Delirium Skeins, and Awaken the Erstwhile strip opponents of their hands and boards while putting every discarded or sacrificed permanent onto your battlefield. A dense stax suite featuring Chains of Mephistopheles, Oppression, Trinisphere, and Null Rod completely paralyzes opposing development. With opponents hellbent and starved of resources, the deck finishes the game within two turn cycles through combat with stolen creatures, Zombie armies, Tinybones, Trinket Thief activations, or massive devotion life drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Independent backup engines like Waste Not and Razaketh, the Foulblooded ensure high resilience if the commander is removed.
