Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Built around Hakbal's combat-explore trigger, the deck grows a wide Merfolk board while drawing lands and loading +1/+1 counters. The primary plan is to snowball with lords and token producers such as Deeproot Waters and Emperor Mihail II until Herald of Secret Streams or islandwalk makes the team unblockable. Secondary paths are Simic Ascendancy as a counter-based alternate win and a slower go-wide plan using Reflections of Littjara and Kindred Discovery. The commander is both engine and finisher: each attack multiplies Merfolk stats and card quality. There is no hidden commander; Hakbal is the build-around, with Emperor Mihail II as a supporting card-advantage engine.
