Deck overview

This mono-black control deck turns life total into card advantage and board control under Vilis, Broker of Blood. Early turns focus on establishing mana rocks and passive card-draw engines that trade life for cards. In the midgame, the deck ramps into heavy demons, utilizing cost-cheating options like K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth and Marshland Bloodcaster to accelerate commander deployment. Once Vilis enters the battlefield, every life payment turns into immediate card velocity, allowing you to wipe opposing creatures with -1/-1 effects while drawing deeper into your deck. The endgame capitalizes on massive hand sizes and low life totals, setting all players to near-zero life with Repay in Kind before closing the game with Pestilence, drain triggers, or large flying demons like Valgavoth, Terror Eater.
