Deck overview

This deck is a high-power Grixis Midrange strategy led by Sauron, the Dark Lord. It leverages an aggressive Wraith and Orc Amass creature engine alongside a dense suite of asymmetric hatebears and interactive spells. The primary plan establishes early ramp to deploy Sauron on Turn 4 or 5. Once on board, Sauron's Ward heavily protects him while opponents' spellcasts automatically grow an Orc Army. Connecting in combat triggers Ring tempts, refilling the hand by discarding low-value cards to draw four fresh ones. The deck quickly floods the board with 9 copies of Nazgûl and Lord of the Nazgûl, rapidly buffing the team with counters and menace. Disruptive staples such as Opposition Agent, Ashiok, Dream Render, and Narset, Parter of Veils slow opposing game plans, while Cyclonic Rift and Living Death provide devastating board swings. A compact Doomsday into Thassa's Oracle package offers an alternate non-combat win condition.
