Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk tribal deck built around Hakbal of the Surging Soul, turning every Merfolk on the battlefield into an explore engine. At the start of each combat, each Merfolk explores, growing the board with +1/+1 counters while Hakbal's attack trigger ramps lands from hand or draws cards. The primary plan is to go wide with a critical mass of Merfolk lords and token generators - Deeproot Waters, Deeproot Pilgrimage, Emperor Mihail II, and Namor the Sub-Mariner - then close the game with a finisher like Overwhelming Stampede or Overrun, or make the entire board unblockable with Herald of Secret Streams. The deck is a fair, combat-oriented strategy with a strong card-advantage engine and a +1/+1 counter subtheme supported by Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, and The Ozolith.
