Deck overview

This deck executes an oppressive poison attrition strategy commanded by Atraxa, Praetors' Voice. The game plan focuses on applying initial poison counters to all opponents during the early turns using efficient infect creatures, toxic threats, or direct spells like Prologue to Phyresis. Once opponents are poisoned, the deck transitions into a control engine, leveraging Atraxa, Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus, Evolution Sage, and Inexorable Tide to proliferate counters every turn without needing continuous combat connections. Powerful card advantage engines like The One Ring and Rhystic Study maintain full grip velocity, while disruptive Praetors (Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger) and free countermagic protect the board and suppress opposing development. Because poison counters cannot be removed from players, the table is placed on an inevitable, accelerating clock that closes out games around Turn 7.
