Format: Commander

Commander: Zaxara, the Exemplary

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This is a Sultai X-spell midrange list helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary. Zaxara taps for two mana of any color and, whenever you cast a spell with {X} in its cost, creates an X/X Hydra token. The 99 is built to feed that trigger: draw-X (Hydroid Krasis, Pull from Tomorrow, Finale of Revelation, Blue Sun's Zenith), ramp-X (Open the Way, Awaken the Woods), removal-X (Curse of the Swine), and table-ending drains (Torment of Hailfire, Exsanguinate). Dedicated Hydras - Kalonian Hydra, Primordial Hydra, Goldvein Hydra, Genesis Hydra, Gargos, Vicious Watcher - plus counter-doublers Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, and Unbound Flourishing turn those tokens into a real clock, while Herald of Secret Streams and Finale of Devastation close in combat. There are no infinite combos. Zaxara is the best enabler and a mana rock, but the X-spells and Hydras in the 99 still function if it is removed.
