Deck overview

Captain Howler, Sea Scourge commands an explosive Izzet discard-aggro deck that converts card velocity into lethal combat power. The deck establishes early discard outlets and looters on turns 1 through 3 before deploying Captain Howler on turn 4. On turn 5, casting burst discard spells like Tolarian Winds or Frantic Search triggers Howler’s ability, granting massive power buffs (+2/+0 per discarded card) and card-draw triggers on combat connection. Combined with double strike enablers like Temur Battle Rage or evasion from Cephalid Inkshrouder and Wonder, Howler can eliminate an opponent in a single swing. Postcombat damage triggers and value engines like Inti, Seneschal of the Sun and Rielle, the Everwise replenish the hand to fuel subsequent turns. Extra combat spells such as Seize the Day and Fury of the Horde accelerate the clock, allowing the deck to close out the remaining opponents over two subsequent combat cycles while ferocious-discounted countermagic protects the board.
