Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, leveraging its ability to return dying nontoken creatures to the battlefield at the beginning of each end step. The deck functions as an aristocrats and big-mana midrange engine, deploying resilient value creatures, sacrifice outlets like Ashnod's Altar and Altar of Dementia, and heavy death payoffs like Syr Konrad, the Grim and Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Supported by ramp such as Crypt Ghast and Thran Dynamo, the deck aims to deploy Avacyn on Turn 6 and begin an oppressive recursion loop by Turn 7. This creates recurring board-clearing triggers via Grave Pact and Archon of Cruelty while draining opponents across turn cycles. The deck features strong creature removal and high engine redundancy, though it remains vulnerable to instant-speed spot removal, graveyard hate, and noncreature permanents.
