Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal build helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul, centered on +1/+1 counter synergies, landfall value, and combat inevitability. The primary game plan is to deploy a wide board of Merfolk, pump them with lords and counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution), then make them unblockable via Herald of Secret Streams or islandwalk from Lord of Atlantis and Master of the Pearl Trident. Hakbal's exploration triggers at combat accelerate land drops and card advantage, while his attack trigger either ramps or draws. Secondary win conditions include Simic Ascendancy (proliferated to 20 growth counters) and Wanderwine Prophets for extra turns. The deck lacks fast tutors and relies on natural draws, making it a mid-speed value engine that wins through overwhelming combat damage.
