Deck overview

This Mardu deck utilizes Licia, Sanguine Tribune as an aggressive Voltron threat and lifegain engine. The deck establishes early board presence with low-cost lifegain creatures like Soul Warden, Creeping Bloodsucker, and Serra Ascendant, enabling an early discounted casting of Licia for just three colored mana. Once deployed, Licia rapidly grows into a massive lifelink threat, triggering drain payoffs such as Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Enduring Tenacity, and Sanguine Bond. While lacking nonland tutors, the list features high functional redundancy in lifegain triggers and resilient protection through Boros Charm, Dawn's Truce, and Mithril Coat. High-impact board wipes like Ruinous Ultimatum and Cloudkill break parity, while the combination of Exquisite Blood with any Sanguine Bond effect provides a sudden infinite finish when drawn naturally.
