Commander: Saruman of Many Colors

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Saruman of Many Colors is the engine of a spell-slinging Esper control deck that mills opponents while copying their instants and sorceries. The primary plan is to cast two spells each turn cycle, convert those triggers into card advantage, and pressure life totals with Repartee creature synergies and evasive attackers. The secondary finish is a deterministic mill combo: Overture (the adventure of Jidoor, Aristocratic Capital) halves an opponent's library, and Riverchurn Monument's exhaust finishes the rest; The Water Crystal increases every mill. Saruman is the only commander, and there is no hidden commander. Without him the deck still functions through draw, removal, and Monument, but his copy trigger is the main accelerant.
