Deck overview

This Golgari deck uses Grist, Voracious Larva to pilot a classic Aristocrats strategy focused on self-mill, graveyard recursion, and life drain. The deck quickly transforms Grist into Grist, the Plague Swarm on Turn 4 by returning recurring creatures like Reassembling Skeleton from the graveyard. Once transformed, Grist fuels the graveyard while generating Insect tokens and answering key artifacts or enchantments. The midgame builds critical mass through self-mill engines such as Hermit Druid, Nyx Weaver, and Perpetual Timepiece. The deck closes the game on Turn 6 or 7 by deploying heavy token payoffs like Izoni, Thousand-Eyed or Aatchik, Emerald Radian, swarming the board and sacrificing creatures into drain engines like Zulaport Cutthroat and Falkenrath Noble. It also features a backup persist loop using Putrid Goblin and Renata, Called to the Hunt. The deck possesses resilient recursion, but remains vulnerable to mass graveyard exile and board sweepers.
