Deck overview

This is a counter-based midrange deck using the partner commanders Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker and Reyhan, Last of the Abzan. Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker grows whenever opponents cast spells, while Reyhan, Last of the Abzan moves counters from dying creatures to another creature. The deck adds scaling effects such as Hardened Scales, Conclave Mentor, Corpsejack Menace, Benevolent Hydra, and Brokers Ascendancy. Ramp is one of the list's stronger features, with signets, talismans, mana creatures, and Sol Ring. Its main weakness is that its pressure does not convert into a dependable table-wide finish. The ordinary plan assembles around turn 7, creates a serious Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker attack around turn 8, and then relies on further combat steps. Card draw and tutors are conditional, and the protection package does not reliably cover exile, sweepers, and countermagic together. Simic Ascendancy is a real alternate threat but is too slow to serve as a compact primary win.
