MONO BLACK by banbanbanban

Format: Commander

Commander: Erebos, God of the Dead

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This is a mono-black midrange/control deck built around Erebos, God of the Dead's life-for-cards engine. Erebos is not the finisher; he is the command-zone Necropotence that keeps the deck digging, while his "opponents can't gain life" clause banks value against lifegain decks. The primary win is the drain loop: a "bond" effect (Sanguine Bond, Enduring Tenacity, or Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose) paired with a "blood" effect (Exquisite Blood or Bloodthirsty Conqueror), started by any life-loss trigger such as Bontu's Monument, Ayara, First of Locthwain, or Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Backup plans are massive Torment of Hailfire/Exsanguinate turns off Cabal Coffers plus Crypt Ghast/Magus of the Coffers, and a Grave Pact/Dictate of Erebos attrition shell that recurs Kokusho, the Evening Star and Gray Merchant.
