Deck overview

This Gruul deck is an aggressive forced-combat and Voltron strategy led by Tahngarth, First Mate. The primary game plan accelerates into an early Tahngarth on Turn 3 or 4, taps him via combat, and leverages his unique triggered ability to jump into combat on every opponent's turn. Because Tahngarth can attack four times per table rotation, single-target buffs like Blackblade Reforged, Lizard Blades, and Unnatural Growth rapidly multiply commander damage to eliminate opponents one by one. A dense suite of goad spells, including Disrupt Decorum, Geode Rager, and Agitator Ant, strips away potential blockers and turns opposing boards against each other while protecting your life total. Resilient protection spells like Heroic Intervention and Deflecting Swat safeguard Tahngarth during vulnerable attack windows. While the list lacks direct creature tutors and hard stax locks, its high density of interchangeable combat manipulators delivers rapid, lethal pressure.
