Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Rakdos Group Slug strategy commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The primary game plan revolves around deploying cheap, passive punisher permanents such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Ankh of Mishra to guarantee that opponents lose life on every turn. Once Valgavoth enters the battlefield on Turn 4, these steady life-loss triggers provide continuous card advantage by drawing three extra cards per table rotation while steadily growing the commander into a lethal flying threat. During the mid-game, the deck compounds this attrition by resolving damage doublers and severe global taxes like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, Manabarbs, and Spellshock. Opponents are forced into a severe dilemma where standard game actions like tapping lands, casting low-cost spells, and drawing cards rapidly deplete their life totals. The deck protects its engine using efficient redirection spells such as Deflecting Swat and closes out the table around Turn 7 with amplified passive burn, evasive commander combat, and decisive finishers like Chandra's Ignition.
