Deck overview

This mono-black Commander deck is helmed by Zul Ashur, Lich Lord and operates as a resilient Zombie tribal midrange engine. The deck focuses on developing early Zombie threats, filling the graveyard through natural combat trades and discard, and utilizing Zul Ashur to recur key creatures each turn. Card advantage is maintained through aristocrat-style draw engines like Undead Augur and Midnight Reaper, while edict effects such as Accursed Marauder keep opposing creature boards suppressed. The deck transitions into the late game by chaining Zombie lords like Death Baron and Undead Warchief to push substantial combat damage, or leveraging heavy black devotion into game-ending life swings with Gray Merchant of Asphodel. While the deck possesses robust creature recursion and consistent on-curve execution, its reliance on the graveyard and vulnerability to sweepers require careful resource management.
