Deck overview

This deck executes an aggressive anti-spell stax strategy led by Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. It accelerates on Turns 1 through 3 using efficient mana dorks and land ramp to cast its commander ahead of curve on Turn 4. Once in play, Ruric Thar punishes noncreature spells by dealing 6 damage to their controllers. This effect is reinforced by a dense package of creature-based hate pieces such as Collector Ouphe, Damping Sphere, Eidolon of the Great Revel, and Magebane Lizard. While spell-heavy decks struggle under mounting damage penalties and artifact suppression, this deck deploys high-power threats like Elder Gargaroth, Kogla, the Titan Ape, and Ghalta, Primal Hunger. The deck breaks parity by running a predominantly creature-based curve that bypasses its own stax pieces, closing out games by Turn 7 through decisive combat damage augmented by End-Raze Forerunners and Garruk's Uprising.
