Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos Stompy strategy commanded by Rakdos, Lord of Riots. The primary game plan uses cheap, repeatable damage sources like Spear Spewer and Chandra's Magmutt to fulfill the commander's casting restriction on Turn 4. Once Rakdos is in play, dealing damage reduces the generic mana cost of creature spells by an equal amount. This mechanic lets the deck cast massive high-CMC threats—such as Avatar of Slaughter, Cityscape Leveler, and Combustible Gearhulk—far ahead of curve on Turn 5. The deck converts this sudden board presence into lethal combat damage over the following two turns. Alternate engines like Ilharg, the Raze-Boar and Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded ensure heavy creatures can still reach combat even if the commander is removed. While the deck boasts immense offensive power and flexible creature removal, its reliance on combat damage and minimal defensive shielding leaves it vulnerable to targeted removal and well-timed sweepers.
