Deck overview

Excava, the Risen Past leads a Boros midrange reanimator deck that merges graveyard recursion, discard synergy, and wide combat pressure. In the early turns, the deck filters through its library using efficient looting spells like Faithless Looting and discard enablers like Currency Converter to stock the graveyard with high-value permanents costing 3 mana or less. Casting Excava on Turn 4 immediately yields board advantage, as its native haste triggers reanimation of utility engines such as Warleader's Call, Containment Construct, or Selfless Spirit. As the midgame progresses, the deck transitions from value generation to lethal threat development using token generators like Quintorius, History Chaser and Draconic Visitor alongside heavy hitters like Sun Titan and Guardian Scalelord. The game closes around Turn 8 through wide airborne combat powered by Moonshaker Cavalry or extra combat phases from Aurelia, the Warleader, backed by resilient defensive spells like Dawn's Truce and Flare of Fortitude.
