Deck overview

This Abzan deck focuses on toughness-matters combat, lifegain synergies, and attrition reanimation. Commanded by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, the deck converts defensive, high-toughness creatures like Tree of Redemption, Indomitable Ancients, and cheap walls into offensive juggernauts using toughness-assignment enablers such as Assault Formation, Felothar the Steadfast, and Doran, Besieged by Time. Concurrently, lifegain triggers from cards like Dazzling Angel and Nyx-Fleece Ram feed Betor's end-step ability, distributing massive batches of +1/+1 counters and reanimating key fallen permanents when life is paid or lost. Asymmetric board wipes like Slaughter the Strong and Wave of Reckoning reliably decimate opposing boards while leaving your high-toughness defenders untouched. While the deck lacks universal tutors and instant-speed stack countermagic, its high functional redundancy, dense mana acceleration, and deep recursion suite establish a resilient midrange clock that steadily overwhelms the table through combat and life-drain attrition.
