Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, transforming life totals into raw mana velocity by substituting two life for every black mana pip. Built around life-as-a-resource synergies, the deck accelerates out K'rrik on early turns using mana rocks and rituals, then leverages abundant unconditional tutors like Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor to assemble lethal combinations. Its most direct path to victory is Professor Onyx paired with Chain of Smog, triggering infinite Magecraft drain in a single turn. Backup strategies include Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose combined with Exquisite Blood, massive life bursts via Aetherflux Reservoir, and card advantage engines such as Bolas's Citadel and Peer into the Abyss. The deck prioritizes speed and redundancy, trading reactive breadth for proactive combo consistency.
