Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends high-efficiency Aristocrats sacrifice loops with potent Reanimator and asymmetric stax lines. Commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the deck uses its commander as a resilient top-end engine that recurs any dying nontoken creature at the end step. However, its primary clock relies on compact graveyard loops centered around Gravecrawler, Warren Soultrader, and Phyrexian Altar alongside drain payoffs like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat. Dense fast mana, rituals (Dark Ritual, Culling the Weak, Cabal Ritual), and precision tutors (Entomb, Buried Alive, Demonic Tutor) enable explosive early turns. In grindier matchups, the deck pivots into oppressive resource denial through Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Braids, Cabal Minion, and Tergrid, God of Fright, locking opposing creatures out of combat and stripping resources while drawing cards in bulk via Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and Skullclamp.
