Deck overview

Led by Sauron, Lord of the Rings, this Grixis deck is a midrange amass/reanimator strategy that grinds opponents down with overwhelming combat. The plan layers three engines: a massive Orc Army grown by the deck's many amass effects, a graveyard subtheme that mines value through Sauron's cast trigger and dedicated reanimation, and a theft/control suite that turns enemy boards against themselves. Sauron himself is the biggest swing - a 9/9 trample that amasses 5, mills five, and reanimates a creature for free on cast - but the deck is built for redundancy: Saruman, the White Hand, Mauhur, Uruk-hai Captain, Book of Mazarbul, and Gothmog, Morgul Lieutenant grow or amplify the Army, while Scourge of the Throne, Living Death, and Subjugate the Hobbits provide the finishers. This is not a fast combo deck; it wins by winning the war of attrition and then ending a game in one or two enormous combat turns.
