Deck overview

This deck is a dedicated Mono-Black Control strategy centered on Horobi, Death's Wail. Horobi turns every spell or ability that targets a creature into an immediate destroy trigger. The deck exploits this symmetrical ability by loading up on over twenty cheap, normally harmless targeting artifacts and lands like Squee's Toy, Distorting Lens, and Tower of the Magistrate. Once Horobi enters the battlefield, these permanents function as free, repeatable, instant-speed creature removal. This creates an oppressive creature lock that clears opposing boards and denies any creature-based strategy. The deck converts this steady stream of creature deaths into game-ending advantage through payoffs like Revel in Riches, Syr Konrad, the Grim, and Gisa, Glorious Resurrector. However, Horobi's ability is strictly symmetrical. Any targeted effect from an opponent will also destroy Horobi or your own creatures, and conventional targeted protection spells cannot save your board. The deck relies heavily on commander uptime to maintain its board lock.
