The deck uses low-cost stax and tax pieces like Blind Obedience and Authority of the Consuls to slow down aggressive starts while establishing mana through rocks and black rituals. Once Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel enters the battlefield on turn 5, every instance of lifegain triggers massive card draw. Combining the commander with Sheoldred, the Apocalypse creates a self-sustaining draw engine that draws the entire library while generating surplus life.
