Deck overview

This Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck is a classic Golgari Aristocrats and Reanimator strategy focused on incremental attrition, resource engine compounding, and oppressive board control. In the opening turns, mana elves and low-cost utility creatures ramp mana and seed the graveyard with disposable fodder. Once Meren enters the battlefield, she converts dying creatures into experience counters, repeatedly recurring silver-bullet answers such as Plaguecrafter, Spore Frog, and Cankerbloom directly to play. The deck suppresses opposing creature strategies using Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos, effectively locking out combat threats. Life totals are steadily ground down through drain effects like Blood Artist, Bastion of Remembrance, and Syr Konrad, the Grim, before closing the game via explosive bursts from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, or a mass Living Death. While exceptionally resilient against traditional creature removal, the deck must remain cautious of direct graveyard exile.
