Deck overview

This mono-black Commander deck combines oppressive stax attrition with high-velocity combo finishes. Commanded by Tergrid, God of Fright, the deck leverages an explosive suite of 0–1 mana acceleration and unconditional black tutors to establish dominant board states ahead of curve. Its primary win condition pairs Professor Onyx with Chain of Smog, creating an infinite Magecraft loop that drains all three opponents to zero in a single turn. Concurrently, the deck can pivot into devastating resource denial using Contamination, Maralen of the Mornsong combined with Opposition Agent, or mass discard and sacrifice spells like Dark Deal, Pox, and Death Cloud. With Tergrid on the battlefield, these symmetrical effects strip opponents of their hands and lands while transferring those permanents directly under the pilot's control. Backed by draw engines like Necropotence and The One Ring, the deck operates with immense velocity, resilient recovery, and relentless resource dominance.
