Deck overview

This Abzan deck is commanded by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, leveraging symmetric life fluctuations to create overwhelming board presence. By pairing consistent lifegain engines (such as Soul Warden, Authority of the Consuls, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse) with self-inflicted life loss (Black Market Connections, Dark Confidant, and shocklands), the deck maximizes Betor's dual end-step triggers to place massive +1/+1 counters on attackers while reanimating high-value creatures directly from the graveyard. Counter amplifiers like Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider and The Earth Crystal accelerate board scaling to lethal thresholds rapidly. High-impact attrition pieces like Liesa, Shroud of Dusk and Erebos, God of the Dead restrict opposing strategies while resilient protection spells like Heroic Intervention and Akroma's Will ensure the board survives to deliver crushing combat damage.
