Deck overview

This deck is a synergistic Simic Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan focuses on establishing an early board of low-cost Merfolk, casting Hakbal on turn 4, and utilizing his combat trigger to explore across all creatures. This rapidly grows the team with +1/+1 counters, filters card draws, and puts surplus lands into hand or onto the battlefield. Counter doublers like Branching Evolution and Hardened Scales accelerate power scaling, while card advantage engines like Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca and Seafloor Oracle keep resources full. To close games, the deck bypasses blockers using Herald of Secret Streams, Islandwalk lords like Master of the Pearl Trident paired with Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood, or one-sided sweepers like Wave Goodbye. Defensive spells like Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call protect against opposing board wipes.
