Deck overview

This competitive Esper deck is an optimized cEDH midrange-consult build commanded by Marneus Calgar. The deck's primary win condition is the format's most compact, protected combo: Thassa's Oracle paired with Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact. Supported by format-ceiling 0–1 CMC mana acceleration (Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Dark Ritual, Lotus Petal) and universal tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor, Imperial Seal), the deck reliably assembles and protects its win condition by Turn 3. Defensive and proactive shielding is exceptionally dense, featuring absolute turn-stoppers like Silence, Grand Abolisher, and Ranger-Captain of Eos, alongside premium free countermagic such as Force of Will and Fierce Guardianship. When forced into a longer game, the deck transitions smoothly into an oppressive midrange engine, drawing massive card volume through Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, and Marneus Calgar's synergy with incidental token generators like Lotho, Corrupt Shirriff and The Queen of Dale while restricting opponents with Drannith Magistrate and Cursed Totem.
