Deck overview

Hermes, Overseer of Elpis leads a mono-blue spellslinger tempo deck that transforms cheap noncreature spells into an evasive aerial army. By casting efficient cantrips, mana rocks, and reactive counterspells, the deck continuously produces 1/1 blue Bird tokens with flying and vigilance. Attacking with Birds repeatedly triggers Hermes's scry 2 ability, fueling card advantage engines like Matoya, Archon Elder and coastal piracy effects such as Curiosity Crafter and Reconnaissance Mission. The deck controls the tempo of the game using low-cost interaction, which pulls double duty by growing the token board on opponents' turns. Once a critical mass of Birds and graveyard spells is established, the deck pivots into a decisive win using explosive mass pump effects like Candlekeep Inspiration and Banner of Kinship, or by resolving overloaded bounce spells like Cyclonic Rift to wipe opposing defenses clean and deliver lethal aerial combat damage.
