Walk in the Woods by nerdyworm

Format: Commander

Commander: Zaxara, the Exemplary

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This deck is an unfocused Sultai (BUG) build helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary, a mana-producing commander that rewards X-cost spells with a scaling Hydra token. The primary plan is to ramp into Zaxara on turn 4, then use his {T} ability to cast X-spells like Damnable Pact, Genesis Hydra, and Contortionist Troupe, generating large creatures while accumulating +1/+1 counter synergies. A secondary, weaker theme runs through Bears, Wolves, Spiders, and Birds - creatures like Hooded Blightfang and The Chief Warg provide light drain or card draw on attack, but the two themes do not meaningfully overlap. The deck lacks a focused win condition; it aims to win through incremental combat damage, occasional drain triggers, or a large Genesis Hydra putting a big threat onto the battlefield. Without a compact combo line or fast pressure, the deck will struggle in a typical four-player pod.
