Deck overview

Hazel of the Rootbloom commands a Golgari token strategy combining go-wide Squirrel swarms with aristocrat drain engines. Early turns focus on establishing mana ramp and cheap token creators like Gilded Goose and Squirrel Sanctuary. Hazel enters on Turn 4, immediately cloning Squirrel tokens each end step and turning the token board into a mana engine. The deck reaches a must-answer state on Turn 6 by deploying massive combat buffs like Beastmaster Ascension or drain engines like Mirkwood Bats and Valley Rotcaller. Opponents face lethal pressure across two combat waves or immediate sacrifice bursts, closing the game on Turn 7. The deck features versatile Golgari interaction through Assassin's Trophy, Tear Asunder, and one-sided sweepers like Swarmyard Massacre. While vulnerable to mass board exile and lacking blue stack interaction, deep functional redundancy ensures steady recovery and consistent multi-angle wins.
