Deck overview

This deck is a classic Gruul Stompy build helmed by Zilortha, Strength Incarnate, leveraging creatures whose power far outstrips their toughness. Zilortha's unique static ability ensures that glass-cannon beaters survive combat and damage-based sweepers by calculating lethal damage against their power. The deck accelerates through early land and creature ramp to curve into card-draw engines like Garruk's Uprising and Guardian Project. By turns 4 and 5, it deploys massive threats such as Ghalta, Primal Hunger, Quartzwood Crasher, and Jumbo Cactuar, amplifying their impact with damage doublers including Xenagos, God of Revels and Unnatural Growth. While exceptionally potent in fair creature combat, the strategy relies heavily on the combat phase and nonland permanents, leaving it susceptible to mass exile, board wipes, and combo decks that bypass combat altogether.
