Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black typal aggro strategy built around 23 copies of Rat Colony and commander Karumonix, the Rat King. The game plan focuses on curving out low-cost Rats, using Karumonix on Turn 3 or 4 to replenish the hand, and swarming opponents with high-power attackers augmented by toxic 1. The density of identical creatures provides exceptional functional redundancy, ensuring consistent early pressure. While Thrumming Stone and Secret Salvage offer explosive ceiling lines, the deck ordinarily relies on steady combat attrition backed by evasion from Marrow-Gnawer and Piper of the Swarm. Its primary vulnerabilities stem from extreme fragility to cheap sweepers and damage-based board wipes due to Rat Colony's single point of toughness. Nevertheless, robust mass recursion spells like Echoing Return, Bloodline Bidding, and Haunting Voyage allow rapid recovery and sustained threat generation.
