Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul leads a synergistic Simic Merfolk tribal deck that merges +1/+1 counter scaling, consistent card flow, and unblockable combat pressure. The deck establishes cheap Merfolk in the opening turns, curving directly into Hakbal to trigger immediate explore abilities across the entire team at combat. This engine accelerates land drops, smooths draws, and expands creature power without requiring mana activations. Evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams, Lord of Atlantis, and Harbinger of the Seas convert wide boards into lethal, unblockable swings by Turns 6-7. Disruptive pieces such as Vodalian Hexcatcher and Harbinger of the Seas hinder opposing mana and noncreature spells, while dedicated protection like Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call defends against sweepers. Deep functional redundancy and command-zone card flow make the deck a resilient, high-tempo combat engine.
