Deck overview

This Golgari deck harnesses The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride to convert aggressively costed, over-statted creatures into massive bursts of card draw and ramp. By deploying high-power, low-mana creatures such as Phyrexian Soulgorger, Daemogoth Titan, and Sheltering Ancient in the early turns, the deck prepares fuel for Gitrog's arrival on Turn 3 or 4. Upon entering with haste, Gitrog saddles these oversized creatures and connects in combat, immediately drawing 5 to 11 cards and putting that many lands onto the battlefield tapped. This explosive influx of lands supercharges landfall engines like Scute Swarm, Rampaging Baloths, Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer, and Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. Supported by robust protection in Sylvan Safekeeper and Heroic Intervention, the deck rapidly translates raw mana and card velocity into an overwhelming, trampling board state that closes out the game across two subsequent combat phases.
