Deck overview

This deck executes an explosive Golgari landfall and card-draw engine commanded by The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride. The strategy uses high-power, low-mana creatures such as Sheltering Ancient, Pugnacious Hammerskull, and Kalakscion, Hunger Tyrant as saddle fodder. On Turn 4, Gitrog attacks with haste and trample, sacrifices the saddled creature upon dealing combat damage, and draws 5 to 9 cards while cheating that many lands directly onto the battlefield. This massive resource leap fuels potent landfall payoffs, including Scute Swarm, Rampaging Baloths, Field of the Dead, and Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. Payoffs like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord and The Skullspore Nexus convert oversized creatures such as Yargle and Multani into lethal table-wide burn. Backed by solid permanent removal, land recursion, and spot protection, the deck reliably outvalues and overruns the table by Turn 6.
