Deck overview

This deck is an Esper spellslinger control and combo list helmed by Y'shtola, Night's Blessed. The strategy revolves around deploying Y'shtola early and enchanting her with damage-triggered card draw effects such as Curiosity, Ophidian Eye, Helm of the Ghastlord, or Tandem Lookout. Because Y'shtola deals 2 damage to each opponent whenever you cast a noncreature spell with mana value 3 or greater, each spell cast draws three cards while padding your life total. The deck leverages this massive card velocity to maintain tight control over the board with an extensive suite of counterspells and removal spells that naturally trigger Y'shtola. Once sufficient cards are drawn, the deck closes the game seamlessly using an infinite life-drain loop with Exquisite Blood combined with Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Enduring Tenacity, or Sanguine Bond, or by poisoning out the table with Phyresis.
